About Joyce Owens, FAIA RIBA
Joyce Owens, FAIA, RIBA, is the principal architect at Architecture Joyce Owens LLC | Studio AJO. She oversees all of the design work that comes out of the offices, and meets with current and potential clients to explore creative possibilities and solutions. She and her team are dedicated to innovation, collaboration, debate, and a cooperative experience with all her clients. Her client list extends through the United States, the United Kingdom, and Italy.
Joyce is the recipient of the 2022 Gold Medal of Honor awarded by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Florida chapter recognizing her leadership and significant contributions to the architecture profession, her communities, and architecture at large. In 2020, she was awarded the organization’s Medal of Honor for Design, AIA Florida’s pinnacle design award honoring her as one of the most influential architects in the state.
Before opening Studio AJO, Joyce was a co-founding partner at the London-based firm Azman Owens Architects, where she worked with clients like London Mayor Boris Johnson, Fashion Icon Alexander McQueen, Fashion Guru Isabella Blow, and retail corporation TAGHeuer.
Her work has received awards from the UK’s Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and the American Institute of Architects (AIA), as well as many design competitions internationally. She has international acclaim and has been published in numerous books and features in The New York Times, The Sunday Times, Architecture Review (UK), Interior Design (US), Architettura d'Interni (IT), Maison Francaise (TU), Elle Magazine and other well respected media sources.
Joyce graduated from Notre Dame University with a degree in architecture before winning a Rotary Foundation scholarship to study in Rome and London. She was an architectural columnist for the Fort Myers News-Press and USA Today.
From 2019 to 2021, she served on the AIA National Strategic Council and is currently a member of the organization's Public Outreach Committee. Joyce was the 2017 President for the AIA Florida. She is twice the recipient of the AIA FlaSW Chapter Individual Honor Award, the W.R. Frizzell Award, and in 2018, her practice received Firm of the Year. In 2018, she was elected to the prestigious College of Fellows at the National level of the American Institute of Architects - the highest membership honor in recognition of exceptional work and contributions to architecture and society.
